随后，詹姆斯礼貌地拒绝了这一提议，他说：“谢谢，我想继续（和其他公司）谈话，如果我不接受其他公司的会面，那就太失职了。”詹姆斯笑称，他可能在回家的路上哭了。
据报道，锐步最初给18岁的詹姆斯的报价是1.15亿美元，当场就给出了1000万的支票，但詹姆斯选择了和耐克签下7年8700万的合同，十多年后，詹姆斯和耐克签下了价值约10亿美元的终身合同。
